What is summer really all about if not a trip to the local fair?

Last weekend, the Sonoma County Fair was in town and this year I couldn't have been more excited to take a little trip to get my grub on and look at the cute farm animals. (I mean, how can you say no to that?)

Last year, C and I were less than enthusiastic about the fair being in town, but this year was completely different. One of my best friends, Kristen, is in a local 40's/50's singing group called The Fondettes and every year they put on a show at the fair. Since C and I weren't able to see them sing last year, we decided this year was going to be the one. I've known Kristen for a few years now and I still had never seen the ladies sing until now and let me tell you...they are phenomenal! They are so incredibly talented and sing/play the 40's/50's like nobody's business!

After The Fondette's set we wandered around the fair looking at cute animals, indulging in delicious food, and checking out the Carny situation. Whenever C and I are at the fair, we can't help but people watch (it really is a fantastic place to do that) and every year, the Carny's are our favorite to watch. Listening to them convince fair-goers to drop $5 on a ring toss is always entertaining.

We were most eager for the art exhibits, but unfortunately this year left much to be desired. As did the flower show. Sadly, we just weren't feeling anything this time around. With disappointment flooding our minds we decided to finish off the night with a slice of apple pie for him and a swirl ice cream cone for me. All in all, it was a great day.

Do you make an annual/bi-annual (or maybe never) trip to the fair? What do you look forward to the most?
